The focus on living spaces lies in comfort, conversation, and beauty. Most often upholstery pieces take the most time and care to select. They’ve got to be comfortable. They often are viewed from all angles including the back of the piece. So the “lines” or what we call “bones” of the piece is important.
Once the most comfortable pieces are selected and attention is paid to the shape and profile of the piece, the fun comes into making it distinctive with fabrics, trimmings (including nailhead trim) wood finishes, and dressmaker details. These are the elements that distinguish a custom piece from something out of a catalog.
The design then become a personal reflection of the clients’ style and color palette. The art of the mix has figured prominently in design again in recent years and this is where the designer can incorporate subtle details that create common threads throughout the scheme.
